Joel W. Stoesser
Investment Committee Chair
Joel W. Stoesser is the Managing Principal of JWS
Advisors, LLC, a real estate investment advisory company. Mr.
Stoesser previously was with Prudential Financial where he was Managing
Director and Head of Investment Advisory Services for Prudential Real
Estate Investors (PREI). In that capacity he had responsibilities
for institutional individual client accounts and specialized commingled
accounts for real estate equity and mortgage programs. Also
provided was strategic planning and tactical management of corporate
facilities to US and multi-national corporations. Mr. Stoesser
was the Chief Executive Officer of PruCorp Real Estate Advisors and
Chairman of the Board of Prudential Realty Partnerships, Inc. an
investment management advisory company and Chairman of the Board and
President of Strategic Performance Fund II, a private real estate
investment trust. He simultaneously served as a Senior Vice
President of Prudential Investment Corporation. Mr. Stoesser also was
Chairman of the PREI Investment Committee, was a member of the
firm’s Management Committee and a member of the firm’s
International Management Committee. During this time PREI managed
approximately $15 billion of real estate investments in all property
types in private and public formats.
Mr. Stoesser had previously served with CIGNA
Corporation where he was a Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio
Manager as Head of Investment Management for External Client Investment
Programs in mortgage and real estate. He also had assignments
with Connecticut General Life Insurance Company as Head of the Real
Estate Equity Investment Department and had been that company’s
Director of Strategic Planning for all investment operations.
During his career Mr. Stoesser has managed in
excess of $14 billion of real estate and mortgage assets and he has
personally been involved in the origination and negotiation of more
than $4 billion of transactions.
Mr. Stoesser holds a B.A. in economics from St.
Lawrence University and an M.B.A. in finance from the University of
Hartford. He attended The Executive Management Program at the
Graduate School of Business of the University of Michigan. He was
a former faculty member of the Graduate School of Business, University
of Hartford. He has lectured at the graduate schools of business
at Wharton, Univ. of Penn. and the Tuck School at Dartmouth College,
Rutgers University and Boston College. He has regularly published
investment articles and papers; he has been a contributing author to
two books and has been a frequent lecturer at real estate industry
conferences.
Michael D. Barker
Strategic Direction & Acquisitions
Since founding Barker Pacific Group in 1983,
Michael Barker has directed the development of over $1 billion in
commercial projects. His active focus is the acquisition,
development and management of residential and commercial property.
Over the past three decades, he has organized projects in such
cities as Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Phoenix,
Houston, Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
Before starting Barker Pacific Group, Mr. Barker
was an officer at Hines, where he headed up development of over four
million square feet of office space in Tulsa, Houston and San Antonio.
He co-founded an asset management firm, First Houston Trust
Company, in 1970. From 1968 to 1970, Mr. Barker served as a lending
officer in the Energy Department of Citibank. Mr. Barker has
served a member of the Board of Pepperdine University, the Urban Land
Institute, the Los Angeles Economic Development Corporation and Lambda
Alpha International. Mr. Barker holds a MBA from the University
of Texas at Austin and a BBA from Abilene Christian University.
Richard Johnson
Finance and Asset Management
Richard J. Johnson originates and negotiates the
underwriting of proposed projects. He analyzes the financials of
deal structures, closes project financing and manages the company's
internal operations. During his tenure at Barker Pacific Group,
Mr. Johnson has been involved in financing over one billion
dollars of commercial projects.
Before coming to Barker Pacific Group in 1986, Mr.
Johnson was a Senior Vice President at Guardian Savings and Loan in
Houston, where he managed a $450 million commercial real estate
portfolio that consisted primarily of new construction. Prior to
joining Guardian, Mr. Johnson was the CFO of Michels Financial
Corporation in Milwaukee and an Audit Manager in the Milwaukee office
of Arthur Anderson & Company. Mr. Johnson holds a MA in
Accounting from The Ohio State University and a BBA from the University
of Wisconsin - Madison.
Victor Indiek
Investment Committee
Victor Indiek serves on the Investment Committee of
Hamilton Capital Partners and brings to the HCP team over 40 years of
real estate investing experience.
After graduation from the University of Kansas, Mr.
Indiek began his successful career as a CPA in public accounting.
In 1970 he was a founder and Chief Financial Officer and later
was appointed President of freddie mac in Washington D C. Mr. Indiek’s next
position was President of Builders Capital Corporation, a major Los
Angeles property development firm. Over the past 19 years, Mr.
Indiek served as President of American Diversified Savings, as Chief
Financial Officer of American Savings & Loan Association, and as
President and CEO of Far West Savings & Loan Association.
During the early 1990’s Mr. Indiek served as Executive Vice
President of Kennedy Wilson International, a publicly traded property
investment and management firm. Also during the past 3 years, Mr.
Indiek was on the Board of Directors of Fidelity Federal Bank.
Mr. Indiek’s vast experience as both a
private investor and as senior executive and board member with major
entities in the real estate industry provides Hamilton Capital Partners
a wealth of investment experience and perspective.
Christopher C. Rising
Acquisitions and Leasing
Mr. Rising is founder and President of The Rising
Real Estate Group, a privately held real estate investment and
brokerage company based in downtown Los Angeles, California. Mr.
Rising, a graduate of Duke University and Loyola Law School, began his
professional career as an associate at Pillsbury Madison & Sutro
(now known as Pillsbury Winthrop LLP). Mr. Rising then spent
several years at Cushman Realty Corporation (“CRC”) working
in the Office of the President – directly alongside brokerage
legend John C. Cushman, III, currently Chairman of the Board of Cushman
& Wakefield, Inc. (“C&W”).
Prior to creating The Rising Real Estate Group, Mr.
Rising was a Director at C&W, joining the company after its merger
with CRC. As a real estate broker, Mr. Rising participated in a
variety of complex real estate transactions, including the purchase of
the Great Western Forum, the sale of the Pacific Design Center, the
restructuring of debt for a major Chicago office and retail
development, and confidential real estate consulting for a Los Angeles
based, high net worth individual. His role in the Office of the
President also required that he lead negotiations and interactions with
officials for both the City of Los Angeles and the State of California.
Further, Mr. Rising was the point person for CRC in its
partnership with UBS, both domestically and internationally.
Kevin Tan
Kevin Tan is responsible for solicitation, review,
underwriting and market research of potential office, industrial and
retail property acquisitions and conducts due-diligence.
Since coming to the firm in 1997, Mr. Tan has been
involved in the successful closing of more than
$450 million in
commercial real estate transactions; in addition, he provides asset
management for the company portfolio. From 1993 to 1996, Mr. Tan
served as Project Manager for Beijing Tian Hong Group, the
third-largest state-owned real estate developer in Beijing, China.
Mr. Tan supervised the construction of over three million square
feet of six new residential communities. Mr. Tan was an editor
for the 1996 Chinese Real Estate Market, an annually published
reference book on the Chinese real estate market. Mr. Tan holds a
Masters in Real Estate Development from University of Southern
California and two Bachelor degrees in Civil Engineering and in
Economics & Management received simultaneously from Tsinghua
University, the premier university in China. Mr. Tan was also a
Ph.D. candidate at University of Southern California.
Janet Nelson
Janet Nelson handles the accounting and financial
reporting for Barker Pacific Group, and HCP as well as all of their
commercial real estate projects.
Prior to joining Barker Pacific Group in 2003, Ms.
Nelson served for fourteen years in Finance and Investor Relations
roles for Glenborough Realty Trust Incorporated, All Covered and
several early stage technology companies. Ms. Nelson holds an MBA
in Finance from Santa Clara University and a BA in Mathematics from
Fontbonne University.
